Una cultura que perdura en la piedra y en la fotografía: Simbolismo y alteridad en Neruda y Chambi

Abstract

This article internalizes the perspective provided by the book Alturas de Macchu Picchu (1954), written by Pablo Neruda, which incorporates photographic images by the Peruvian photographer Martín Chambi, which presents a look at the colonization of Latin America and the effects it had on The Inca people seen from the Latin American point of view. This work stands out for the relationship between literature and photography that converge and complement each other to express a shared idea. To address this link, concepts such as stone, absence, oblivion and death are analyzed, which together offer us a point of view of a lyrical speaker who rediscovers his own land, at the same time that the collection of poems makes constant use of a implicit symbolism, which is developed through alterity and subalternity that the poetic voice evokes.
